Here are my family's favorite spots for leaf-peeping in the Rutland area:
{Pine Hill Park}
{2 Oak St Ext, Rutland VT}
Right in the heart of Rutland and fun for the whole family, this is a great spot to see the fall colors from below. If you're up for a bit of a hike, you can wander up far enough to really take in some gorgeous scenery. But even if you stick to the very family-friendly lower Georgetti Loop walking trail, its a wander that even the littlest hikers can do.
{Pittsford Trail Network}
{Town of Pittsford}
Easy to get to, with lots of different options depending on length and ability. A favorite of ours is the High Meadows Trail. Just under a mile and mostly flat, you'll see some truly incredible views of the Taconics and Adirondacks.
{Taconic Ramble State Park}
{321 St John Rd, Hubbardton VT}
Just a quick trip out of town, you practically don't even have to get out of your car to see some stunning views. There are a variety of trails throughout the park and a gorgeous Japanese garden. If you're up for a rocky climb you can reach some amazing vistas, but you'll have plenty of opportunity for leaf peeping from the the meadows.
{All Over Town}
{Rutland, VT}
Truthfully, you don't have to break out your hiking shoes, go for a long drive, or even leave town to see some gorgeous fall colors. We are THAT lucky here! Take a step outside, wherever you are, and take a look at those rolling hills and rising Green Mountains. Find an open space around town - parks are great options - and you're sure to catch some spectacular changing leaves without any effort at all!
